Welcome to L.A. 6! This year your child will be working on a double period schedule to allow for more in-depth learning in the classroom. Because of this, language arts generally falls on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule. This page will be updated at least a week in advance with information/assignments. If your child is absent, please be sure to check out what they missed on that particular day. The course outline for the year is attached below for parent viewing.

Monday: Today we will work on benchmark testing for reading levels, set up our duotangs, and go over the course outline for language arts (attached above). We will also have our first library period, led by our learning commons facilitator, Lesley Masuk.
Wednesday: Students will be introduced to Unit 1: Identity. We will discuss how each person is unique and begin our first activity All About Me: Backpack Assignment. This assignment is attached below and will be DUE on Thursday, Sept.28.

Sept. 18 - 22
Monday: Students will get their first spelling booklet of the year and be given a 20-word list to take home and study. They have been split into either the "green", "red", "blue", "yellow" or "orange" group - please ask your child which group they're in to view the appropriate word list below. Every other Monday, they will be given an activity booklet to accompany their spelling words and these are due by the end of the week (Friday) when they are tested on their spelling list. Your child should be bringing home both a spelling list and activity booklet if they do not finish it during class time. We will also have our library period today!

*Important Update* Beginning January 8, 2024 - April 19, 2024 - we are welcoming a University of Lethbridge intern into our 6A & 6B classroom. Mr. Ethan Hutchison will be responsible for planning, teaching, and assessing the language arts curriculum during this time. As a result, we will switch to a single period Monday-Friday language arts schedule. He is in charge of updating our weekly overview and can be contacted directly with any questions about L.A.!
